Two ways to get Logic in front of students. One keeps school spend at zero. The other puts MDM, licenses, help-desk time — and possibly financed Macs with AppleCare — on the school every trimester the class runs.

The choice
Same goal. Different owner of the cost.
Course prerequisite
Family pays for Mac + Logic
School Logic seats$0
Mosyle on personal Macs$0
Help-desk enroll / reclaim$0
School-financed Macs + AppleCare$0
School cost

8 students or 25 — school invoice stays $0. Class size does not open a budget line.
Greg’s option
School runs MDM — and may finance Macs
Logic for 8 (first buy)~$1,600
Mosyle for 8 (this year)~$44
~42 help-desk hours (~1 tech-week)~$1,850
Financed Mac + AppleCare, if needed+$1,350 each
School floor · 8 students · first trimester
~$3.5k+
Worked example below. Financed Mac + AppleCare is extra (~$1,350 each).
Greg’s option gets more expensive as the class grows
First-trimester school floor only (Logic + Mosyle + help-desk). Prerequisite stays $0. Financed Mac + AppleCare (~$1,350 each) not included.

What’s in Greg’s bill
Four school cost lines. Only Logic is one-time.
Logic seats$199.99 each under 20 · $99.99 at 20+ in one buy. Bought once, reused across trimesters.
Mosyle seats~$5.50 / device / year. NEIA is at 118/118 — every personal Mac is an add-on.
IT labor / technicians~$44/hr loaded. Setup once (~12 hrs), then ~3.75 hrs per student each trimester (enroll, support, reclaim). At 8 students that is ~42 hours the first trimester — already a week of one technician. Larger sections stack hours until you need more help-desk capacity.
Financed / school Macs + AppleCareOptional when families don’t already own a suitable Mac. Institution lower bound ≈ $1,350 each: 13" MacBook Air (~$1,199) + 3-year AppleCare+ for Schools (~$155). 4-year AppleCare is ~$205 → ≈$1,400. Plus the same Mosyle + Logic + support load. Not in the interactive chart unless you add it on top.
Interactive chart on the next slide is the software + labor floor (students already have Macs). Any financed Mac + AppleCare (~$1,350 each) sits on top of that floor. Labor is illustrative, not time-tracked.

At today’s size (8): about $3.5k the first trimester for BYOD, then roughly $1.3k more every later trimester (Mosyle adds again each school year) — while prerequisite stays $0.
Why BYOD doesn’t flatten
Logic is the only piece that stops growing.
The first trimester buys the seats. After that, Logic can be reassigned — but every trimester the class runs still needs enroll, mid-trimester support, and reclaim.
Mosyle bills by the year; labor hits every trimester. Personal Macs are extra seats on top of a full 118 license pool — billed yearly, not per trimester.
Bigger sections buy more seats up front and more hours every trimester it runs. At 20 students, volume Logic ($100) helps the purchase — labor and Mosyle still scale linearly.
Prerequisite never opens a school invoice when class size doubles or the elective runs again next trimester.
Family side of prerequisite
$0 to the school is not $0 to the family.
Typical family software
Creator Studio or Logic
Creator Studio ≈ $13/mo (about $52 for a 4-month trimester) or Logic Pro ≈ $200 once.
Plus the Mac they already need for an Apple-only course tool.
What BYOD buys the school
Ownership — at a price
School-owned seats and reclaim fit a “fees cover software” story.
They also buy ongoing MDM of personal property, dual support risk, and the cumulative bill on the previous slides.
If leadership wants school-owned Logic without BYOD MDM, put seats on school Macs / loaners — not User Enrollment on student laptops. That is a third path; this deck compares the two options Greg is pushing between.
Recommendation
Make Mac + Logic the course prerequisite.
School spend stays $0 whether the section is 8 or 20, this trimester or the next. BYOD MDM spends thousands the first time and keeps spending every trimester the class runs.
